How is EMsculpt different to going to the gym?
EMsculpt technology contracts 100% of the muscle fibres (myofibrils) for up to 100% of the duration of the treatment time. During a workout at the gym, an amateur athlete would typically be able to voluntary contract a maximum of 35-40% of the muscle fibres (a professional athlete may be able to voluntary contract 55% of the muscle fibres). The end result of EMsculpt technology is a much more targeted and intense work out that would be physically impossible to replicate in the gym yourself.

Who is suitable for EMsculpt treatment?
EMsculpt treatment is best suited to clients who want to build muscle mass and burn unwanted fat in the treatment area. It is best performed on clients who require increased muscle size, strength, tone and definition.
Does the EMsculpt procedure hurt?
The EMsculpt procedure may cause discomfort but is not painful. However, due to the technology specifically targeting the muscles within the treatment area, the procedure will feel like an intense workout. The procedure is delivered with the client laid almost flat to help them feel relaxed.
Will I be sore after EMsculpt treatment?
During a workout at the gym :
- Different muscle groups are specifically targeted and the muscle fibres are damaged (muscle protein breakdown).
- Metabolic stress is also caused by a build up of lactic acid and a drop in pH within the working muscles.
Following the workout :
- a protein called mTOR stimulates muscle protein synthesis (healing), more filaments are added to each muscle fibre and the muscle mass increases (hypertrophy).
- In a traditional gym workout, muscle damage and lactic acid often cause delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) lasting several days
EMsculpt technology not only delivers superior muscle hypertrophy, it does so without DOMS.
Discomfort post EMsculpt procedure is limited to a slight tenderness in the treatment area.
How long does EMsculpt treatment take?
The duration of each treatment session varies depending on the areas to be treated
Each session usually takes 30 minutes.
Superior results are typically seen after 4 treatment sessions split over a 2 week period. Sessions should be spaced at a duration of at least 2-3 days apart.
What is the downtime following EMsculpt?
There is no downtime with an immediate return to normal activities
Avoid a work out involving the treated muscle group for 2 days following your treatment session.
Some clients do describe a mild tenderness in the treatment area. This discomfort is however not as intense as that experienced following a traditional gym work out.
When will I see the results from EMsculpt treatment?
The results following EMsculpt do vary considerably, depending on factors such as age, physical condition and BMI.
Visible results are usually noticed at 2-4 weeks post procedure and often continue to improve with optimal clinical results evident at 6 weeks.
Are the results from EMsculpt permanent?
The results following EMsculpt can be maintained in clients who continue to follow a healthy lifestyle routine. The fat cells that have been destroyed by an increase in fat metabolism will be permanent unless there is significant weight gain that causes residual fat cells to swell and increase in volume.
A top up treatment is recommended every 3-6 months to help maintain the clinical results.
What are the benefits after the EMsculpt treatment?
Additional benefits of Emsculpt include:
Clients who have had abdominal treatments often find and an improvement in posture and reduction in lower back pain.
Regular gym attenders may find they are able to hold a plank for longer, lift more , squat heavier weights and feel their core strength is improved.
Regular runners and swimmers may find they can perform faster due to increased core strength.
EMsculpt can also help reduce delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) or muscle fatigue.
Can EMsculpt help with diastasis recti?
EMsculpt is really effective at improving muscle tone and burning fat but it can also be used to help improve diastasis recti. Diastasis recti or rectus abdominis diastasis is common in women post-pregnancy. The pressure on the stomach from pregnancy can cause the abdominal muscles to stretch and separate causing a bulge in the stomach. In most cases the muscles are eventually able to shrink back to their original shape but for some this does not happen.
Previously surgery was the only way to rectify this issue which can cause a significant amount of unwanted downtime. EMsculpt offers the first non-surgical means of improving this condition boasting a 11% reduction in abdominal muscle separation.
