Polynucleotides are one of the latest treatments to have taken the aesthetics world by storm. So what is it about this treatment that differentiates it from other injectable treatments?

In this blog we will take a look at what polynucleotides are, and why our patients at The Body Work Clinic in Cambridge love this versatile and regenerative new treatment.

What are polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are DNA fractions that are derived from either salmon or trout DNA. When the polynucleotides are injected into the skin they bio stimulate the cells under the epidermis and this starts off a regenerative process beneath the skin.

How do polynucleotides improve skin quality?

Polynucleotides stimulate collagen production through their ability to activate fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen and other structural proteins in the skin. When polynucleotides are introduced into the skin through treatments such as Plinest injections they interact with cell receptors and signalling pathways that trigger fibroblasts to increase collagen synthesis.

Additionally, polynucleotides can also enhance the expression of growth factors and cytokines that further stimulate collagen production. By promoting collagen synthesis, polynucleotides help improve skin elasticity, firmness, and overall youthfulness, making them a valuable component in anti-aging and skin rejuvenation treatments.

What does an increase of collagen and elastin do for skin health?

As we age collagen and elastin levels decrease. This leads to sagging, loose and wrinkled skin. By Increasing our levels of collagen and elastin we will see improved skin firmness , tone and texture as well as less lines and wrinkles.

What’s the difference between polynucleotides and dermal fillers?

When we inject dermal fillers we add volume to the face. Polynucleotides don’t add any volume. Instead, this treatment uses your own biology to rejuvenate the skin from the outside in.

Polynucleotides are therefore beneficial for patients who would like to improve their skin quality without adding volume; but equally polynucleotides are also great for patients who want to have dermal fillers and get the benefit of improved skin quality as well.

Where can polynucleotides be injected?

Polynucleotides can be injected in the face, neck and decolletage. One of the benefits of this treatment is that you can place the polynucleotides closer to the aye area than a lot of other treatments.

Polynucleotides will also work to firm skin on the body for example the stomach or knees. They also have the amazing property of being able to stimulate hair growth and as a result of this they can be injected into the scalp.

Have polynucleotides been tried and tested?

Yes they have! This treatment has been used in traditional medicine for many years for problems such as healing chronic wounds. The efficacy of this treatment and the fact it has been tried and tested for many years before finding its way into the world of aesthetics means we know that it is a safe and effective treatment for our patients at The Body Work Clinic.

If you would like to know more about how polynucleotides could improve your skin health we would welcome you to book a consultation at our clinic in Cambridge.

Summer officially starts on the 20th June 2024 and it’s that time of year when we need to evaluate if we’re swimsuit ready or not.

If you have been good, and spent your time watching what you’ve been eating and working out in the gym you’re probably already beach body ready. However, if the diet and exercise routine suffered from ‘failure to launch’ we are here to help.

At The Body Work Clinic in Cambridge we have a range of the latest technologies that can help you to shift those last few pounds and tighten those jiggly bits to get you bikini ready for the summer season. From freezing your fat, building muscle (without going to the gym), to firming and sculpting, if you want to know more, read on!

Coolsculpting in Cambridge

Coolsculpting is a very popular treatment among our patients at The Body Work Clinic. This fat reduction treatment, also known as Fat Freezing, is great for targeting specific pockets of fat that patients are finding difficult to shift.

The Coolsculpting applicators are positioned on areas where you have stubborn fat and these areas are then targeted by the cold technology that freezes the fat cells. After the Coolsculpting treatment your body naturally eliminates the fat from your system, leaving you looking trimmer with a reduction in fat.

This treatment can be used to target the tummy, inner and outer thighs, love handles, upper arms, back and bra fat, legs, knee pads, under the buttocks, jawline and chin. It can also be used on the chest, but only for male patients.

Coolsculpting works well on patients who are already active and have a good diet but are struggling with stubborn fat that is proving difficult to get rid of.

Emsculpt treatment

If you’re wanting to reduce fat and build muscle in one go, you may be interested in Emsculpt, a non-invasive treatment that can help you on the journey towards getting your body in shape for this summer.

Clinically proven to reduce fat by an average of 19% and to build muscle by an average of 16%, Emsculpt works by projecting thousands of induced, powerful muscle contractions to targeted areas of the body. These contractions result in the body responding by building muscle which leads to a more sculpted look.

Emsculpt is safe, effective, non-surgical treatment suitable for treating the tummy, buttocks, arms, calves and thighs.

Exilis Ultra at The Body Work Clinic

At the opposite end of fat freezing we find the Exilis Ultra, a sophisticated piece of radiofrequency technology which uses warmth rather than freezing to tighten and firm. The Exilis Ultra can be used for both face and body rejuvenation regardless of your BMI or skin type.

Not only is this treatment non surgical but it is fast and effective and it offers a 30% reduction in skin laxity, which makes it a great option for firming up loose and flabby bits on the body.

The Exilis can be used on the arms, tummy and decolletage, all the bits that will be on show when you’re wearing your bikini, on the beach, sipping on a Pina Colada.

A healthy diet and exercise should always be your first port of call when you’re trying to achieve a beach body, but we all know life sometimes gets in the way of our best intentions. So, if you’re struggling with stubborn fat we’re here to help at the Body Work Clinic in Cambridge.

If you’d like to book in for a consultation we would be more than happy to advise you which of our fat reduction and body sculpting technologies would be best for your particular concerns.

In the second half of our definitive two-part guide to dry skin, we take a look at the foundations of effective dry skin care, along with the professional treatment options available for combating prolonged and severe dry skin.

Common Myths and Misconceptions About Dry Skin

While most people believe they know a thing or two about dry skin, it’s not always as straightforward as most would expect. As with many common skin complaints, misguided assumptions and outright myths can unknowingly lead people down entirely the wrong path, where preventing and treating dry skin is concerned.

A few examples of these common misunderstandings:

Myth 1: Dry Skin Only Occurs in Winter

One of the most widespread myths about dry skin is that it only occurs during the winter months. While cold weather can exacerbate dry skin symptoms due to low humidity levels and increased exposure to indoor heating systems, dry skin is a year-round concern.

Factors such as hot showers, harsh soaps and excessive sun exposure can also contribute to dryness regardless of the season. It’s essential to adapt your skincare routine to address dryness effectively, no matter the time of year.

Myth 2: Drinking More Water Alone Will Hydrate Your Skin

While staying adequately hydrated is vital for overall health, drinking more water alone might not directly solve dry skin issues. Dry skin is primarily caused by a compromised skin barrier that fails to retain moisture effectively. External factors such as harsh weather, excessive cleansing and using products with irritants can further weaken the skin’s barrier.

Hydrating from within can support skin health, but it’s equally important to use appropriate moisturisers and skincare products that help lock in moisture and repair the skin’s barrier.

Myth 3: Oily Skin Can’t Be Dry

It’s a common misconception that individuals with oily skin are immune to dryness. In reality, it’s possible to have oily skin and still experience dry patches or overall skin dryness. Oily skin refers to an overproduction of sebum, the skin’s natural oil.

This excess oil might create a greasy appearance on the skin’s surface, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that the skin is effectively retaining moisture. Using non-comedogenic moisturisers can help balance oily skin and prevent dry areas.

Myth 4: Scrubbing Excessively Removes Dry Skin

Scrubbing the skin vigorously with exfoliants or harsh scrubs might seem like a logical solution to remove dry, flaky skin. However, excessive scrubbing can worsen the situation. Over-exfoliation can damage the skin’s protective barrier, leading to increased dryness, redness and even irritation.

Instead, opt for gentle exfoliation methods like chemical exfoliants with alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs). Remember to follow up with a hydrating moisturiser to help the skin recover.

Myth 5: All Moisturisers Are the Same

Not all moisturisers are created equal and selecting the right one for dry skin requires careful consideration. Thick, occlusive moisturisers are often more effective for severely dry skin, as they create a barrier that prevents water loss. By contrast, lighter lotions are suitable for milder cases of dryness.

Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerine, ceramides and fatty acids, which help restore the skin’s natural moisture balance. Tailoring your choice of moisturiser to your specific skin needs can make a significant difference in managing dry skin.

Myth 6: Hot Showers Are Good for Dry Skin

While a hot shower can be soothing, it’s important to be mindful of water temperature and duration, especially if you have dry skin. Prolonged exposure to hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils and worsen dryness.

Use lukewarm water and limit your shower or bath time to around 10 minutes. Afterwards, gently pat your skin dry and apply a moisturiser to seal in moisture while your skin is still slightly damp.

Myth 7: Natural Oils Alone Can Cure Dry Skin

Natural oils like coconut oil, olive oil and almond oil have gained popularity as home remedies for dry skin. While these oils can provide temporary relief, they might not be enough to fully address the underlying causes of dryness.

In some cases, certain oils can even clog pores and lead to breakouts. If you choose to use oils, apply them after using a water-based moisturiser to trap the moisture and create a protective barrier.

The Foundations of Effective Dry Skin Care: Keeping it Simple

When it comes to caring for dry skin, simplicity is your greatest ally. By focusing on a few key aspects of skincare, you can create an effective routine that helps restore and maintain your skin’s natural moisture balance.

The most important foundations of effective dry skin care are as follows:

Gentle Cleansing

Choose a mild, hydrating cleanser that cleans your skin without stripping away its natural oils. Harsh cleansers can exacerbate dryness, so look for products labelled “gentle” or “hydrating.”

Hydration is Key

The cornerstone of dry skin care is moisture. Use a high-quality, fragrance-free moisturiser daily, both in the morning and before bed. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerine and ceramides, which help lock in moisture.

Avoid Hot Water

Hot water can further dry out your skin by disrupting its natural barrier. Stick to lukewarm water when cleansing and bathing and try to keep your shower time relatively short.

Exfoliation

Gently exfoliate once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells that can contribute to dryness. Choose a mild exfoliant with ingredients like lactic acid or gentle scrubs and avoid overdoing it, as excessive exfoliation can worsen dryness.

Sun Protection

Even on cloudy days, UV rays can damage your skin and worsen dryness. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily to shield your skin from the sun’s harmful effects.

Hydrating Masks

Incorporate hydrating face masks into your routine once a week. These masks provide an extra boost of moisture and nourishment to your skin.

Healthy Lifestyle

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and maintaining a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables and healthy fats. A well-hydrated body is more likely to have well-hydrated skin.

Avoid Harsh Products

Stay away from products containing alcohol, fragrances and strong chemicals, as these can irritate and further dry out your skin. Stick with products labelled as “suitable for sensitive skin” where possible.

Humidify Your Environment

During the colder months, indoor heating can suck moisture from the air, contributing to dry skin. Use a humidifier in your living spaces to maintain a more comfortable and moisturised environment.

Consult With a Professional

If your dry skin persists despite your efforts, consider consulting a dermatologist. They can provide personalised advice and recommend products or treatments tailored to your skin’s needs.

Professional Treatment Options for Chronic or Extensive Dry Skin

Where skin dryness becomes particularly problematic, the solution may lie in one of many technologically advanced, non-surgical treatment options. Beyond everyday topicals and prescription medication, a broad range of procedures can be performed to address issues with dry skin at the source.

Examples of these include:

1. Hyaluronic Acid Infusion

This precision treatment harnesses the unique moisture-retaining properties of hyaluronic acid. Through a series of minimally invasive micro-injections, this natural compound is introduced into the skin. It attracts and retains water, effectively boosting hydration levels and enhancing the skin’s elasticity. Hyaluronic acid infusions are suitable for all skin types and are particularly beneficial for rejuvenating dry, lacklustre complexions.

2. Microdermabrasion

A gentle yet highly effective exfoliation technique, microdermabrasion employs fine crystals or a diamond-tipped wand to remove dead skin cells. By eliminating this superficial layer, the procedure promotes cell turnover and stimulates collagen production. It’s a popular option for individuals with mild dryness and flakiness, effectively unveiling fresher, more supple skin.

3. Chemical Peels

Chemical peels utilise carefully formulated solutions to exfoliate the skin’s surface layers. They encourage the removal of dead cells and prompt the emergence of healthier, hydrated skin underneath. Depending on the severity of dryness, different peel strengths can be selected. From superficial to medium-depth peels, they cater to various skin concerns, including dryness and dullness.

4. Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Fractional laser treatments, such as fractional CO2 or erbium lasers, work by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process initiates natural healing mechanisms, stimulating collagen and elastin production. It’s an ideal choice for addressing deeper dryness issues, fine lines and overall skin texture irregularities.

5. Oxygen Facials

This soothing treatment involves a gentle stream of pressurised oxygen infused with vitamins, minerals and hyaluronic acid. By delivering essential nutrients directly into the skin, oxygen facials enhance hydration and promote a radiant complexion. They’re suitable for those with mild to moderate dry skin, providing instant nourishment and hydration.

6. Radiofrequency (RF) Therapy

RF treatments employ controlled energy to heat the deeper layers of the skin. This thermal energy stimulates collagen production, promoting skin tightening and improved texture. For those with dry skin and mild sagging, RF therapy offers a non-surgical avenue to restore a more youthful appearance.

7. Mesotherapy

This technique involves micro-injections of customised cocktails of vitamins, minerals and hyaluronic acid. The formula is directly delivered to the targeted area, enhancing skin hydration and promoting cellular rejuvenation. Mesotherapy is versatile and can be tailored to address specific dry skin concerns.

8. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy

While primarily known for its ability to effectively treat hyperpigmentation and vascular issues, IPL therapy can also improve overall skin texture and hydration. The light energy stimulates collagen synthesis and can alleviate dryness by encouraging healthier skin growth.

9. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

PRP utilises your own blood’s concentrated platelets, rich in growth factors, to stimulate collagen production and skin repair. PRP injections can effectively treat dryness, particularly when combined with other treatments to maximise results.

10. Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound treatments employ sound waves to stimulate collagen production and improve skin elasticity. They’re suitable for mild to moderate dryness and work by rejuvenating the deeper layers of the skin.

Making the Right Choice

In all instances, the suitability of the above treatments will always vary in accordance with an individual’s specific skin concerns, skin type, medical history and physiology. It is therefore important to openly discuss all available options with your practitioner, in order to ensure you make a confident and informed decision.

Book Your Obligation-Free Consultation

Whether looking to tackle a longstanding issue or concerned regarding the manifestation of dry skin or anywhere on your body, we would be delighted to provide you with an obligation-free consultation at your convenience.

During this, your consultant will conduct an examination of the affected area, provide pressure-free recommendations for potential treatment options and offer the objective advice you need to make the right choice.

Healthy, radiant skin isn’t just a superficial goal; it’s a reflection of overall well-being and self-care. Our skin, the body’s largest organ, acts as a protective shield and deserves the best care we can provide.

The prevalence of dry skin – medically referred to as xerosis – is remarkable. At some point in our lives, almost everyone will be troubled by dry skin to some extent. But what’s particularly interesting is how despite how prevalent it may be, comparatively few people understand the true causes, effects or remedies for dry skin.

Knowledge is power, which is why we’ve created this definitive guide to dry skin, packed with the practical insights needed to keep your skin in top condition throughout all four seasons.

Identifying the Symptoms of Dry Skin

Dry skin can manifest in various ways and while some symptoms are easily noticeable, others might not be as apparent at first glance.

Understanding the full spectrum of symptoms is crucial for recognising and addressing dry skin effectively, as it’s not always quite as easy to spot as you might think.

Here are just a few of the telltale signs you may be suffering from skin dryness:

Visible Flakiness and Redness

The most visible and obvious signs of dry skin are flakiness and redness. If you notice areas of your skin appearing scaly or having a rough texture, it’s a clear indication that your skin’s moisture barrier might be compromised.

Tightness and Itchiness

Where skin lacks moisture, it can feel tight and itchy – especially after bathing or exposure to dry air. If your skin feels uncomfortably stretched or you find yourself itching frequently, it’s likely that your skin lacks proper hydration.

Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Dryness of the skin can increase the risk of developing fine lines and wrinkles. When the skin is dehydrated, these lines can become more prominent. Keeping your skin moisturised helps maintain its elasticity and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

Dull and Lacklustre Appearance

Lack of moisture can result in a dull and lacklustre complexion. If your skin appears less radiant and vibrant than usual, it could be a sign of dryness.

Sensitive Skin

Skin dryness almost always prompts higher sensitivity to external irritants. If you find that your skin reacts adversely to skincare products or becomes easily irritated by factors like weather changes or certain fabrics, it could be due to dryness.

Cracks and Deep Fissures

In severe cases, dry skin can lead to cracks and deep fissures, especially in areas like the heels, elbows and knuckles. These cracks can be painful and even lead to bleeding.

Increased Sensation of Cold or Heat

Another less obvious symptom of skin dryness is sensitivity to temperature changes. You might notice that you feel colder in chilly weather and warmer in hot conditions, as your skin’s ability to regulate temperature can be compromised.

Increased Susceptibility to Skin Infections

Dry skin can create small openings in the skin’s barrier, making it easier for bacteria and other pathogens to enter. This can increase your susceptibility to skin infections.

Slight Sunburn

Skin dryness often makes the skin more susceptible to sunburn, even on overcast days. If you notice that your skin burns more quickly than usual when exposed to the sun, it’s a sign that your skin’s protective barrier is compromised.

Patchiness and Uneven Texture

Patchiness and an uneven skin texture can be caused or exacerbated by skin dryness. You might notice areas of your skin that feel rougher or coarser compared to the rest of your complexion.

Makeup Application Issues

Dry patches of skin can make makeup application more challenging. If you find that your foundation appears cakey, settles into fine lines, or doesn’t blend smoothly, it could be due to underlying dryness.

Difficulty Healing

If you notice that minor cuts, scrapes, or blemishes on your skin take longer than usual to heal, it could be indicative of dry skin. Properly moisturised skin has better healing capabilities.

Nail and Cuticle Problems

Dry skin can in some cases extend to your nails and cuticles, causing them to become brittle, dry and prone to splitting.

Crepey Skin

As dry skin worsens, it can lead to ‘crepey skin’, which appears thin, fragile and finely wrinkled, resembling crepe paper.

Increased Allergic Reactions

Dry skin can heighten your skin’s sensitivity, potentially leading to increased allergic reactions to certain substances, such as fragrances or preservatives in skincare products.

If you find yourself experiencing any of these symptoms, you may be able to bring them under control with self-administered care, such as stepping up your everyday skin regime. Though where issues are more severe or prolonged, it is important to bring them to the attention of a doctor or dermatologist for further investigation.

What Causes Skin to Become Dry?

Understanding the cause of dry skin is the first step in the process of bringing it under control. As with most issues regarding skin health, some of the most common triggers of skin dryness are beyond an individual’s direct control. Others, by contrast, are directly related to our lifestyle choices.

But even where an individual is naturally prone to dry skin, there’s much that can be done to prevent or reduce the likelihood of breakouts.

For context, the most common causes of skin dryness are as follows:

Lack of Moisture

The simplest (and most common) explanation for dry skin is insufficient moisture. When the skin’s natural hydration levels drop, it can no longer retain water effectively, resulting in dryness and tightness.

Harsh Weather Conditions

The UK’s climate is notoriously unpredictable, bringing cold winds and low humidity levels during the winter months. These conditions can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness. Additionally, exposure to indoor heating systems can exacerbate the issue by further drying out the air.

Hot Showers and Baths

Although a hot shower or bath can be comforting, it can also be detrimental to your skin. Prolonged exposure to hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils, disrupting the moisture barrier and causing dryness – particularly if you live in a hard water area.

Use of Harsh Soaps and Cleansers

Certain soaps and cleansers contain harsh ingredients that can disrupt the skin’s natural pH balance. This can strip the skin of its protective oils, leading to dryness.

Ageing

As we age, our skin naturally produces fewer oils and becomes thinner. This can make the skin more susceptible to dryness and reduced elasticity. Using a good quality moisturiser becomes increasingly important as we get older.

Underlying Health Conditions

Certain health conditions can contribute to dry skin. Hypothyroidism, for instance, reduces the activity of oil glands, leading to dryness. Diabetes can also affect blood circulation and impair the skin’s ability to retain moisture.

Dehydration

Your skin’s hydration is closely linked to your overall hydration. When you’re not drinking enough water, your skin can become dry and dull. Staying well-hydrated is crucial for maintaining healthy skin.

Unbalanced Diet

Your diet plays a role in the health of your skin. A lack of essential fatty acids, vitamins (especially A, C and E) and minerals can contribute to dry skin. These nutrients help maintain the skin’s moisture barrier and promote overall skin health.

Medications

Certain medications, such as diuretics and acne treatments, can have a drying effect on the skin as a side effect. If you’re experiencing dry skin while taking medication, it’s worth discussing with your healthcare provider.

Frequent Hand Washing

While proper hand hygiene is vital, frequent washing, especially with harsh soaps, can strip the hands of their natural oils, leading to dryness. Be sure to moisturise your hands after washing to keep your skin hydrated.

Excessive Exfoliation

Exfoliating the skin is beneficial for removing dead skin cells and promoting a healthy glow. However, excessive exfoliation or using overly abrasive products can damage the skin’s protective barrier, leading to dryness and sensitivity.

Long Exposure to Water

Activities such as swimming and dishwashing can involve prolonged exposure to water. Surprisingly, excessive contact with water can actually strip the skin of its natural oils, contributing to dryness.

Smoking and Alcohol

Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can negatively impact skin health. Smoking reduces blood flow to the skin, while alcohol can dehydrate the body, leading to dry and lacklustre skin.

Stress

High levels of stress can trigger various skin issues, including dryness. Stress can disrupt the skin’s barrier function, leading to water loss and dryness.

Making positive lifestyle adjustments can hold the key to bringing mild to moderate cases of dry skin under control. But where skin dryness is prolonged, excessive or becomes a daily discomfort, it may be necessary to seek professional advice on potential treatment avenues.

Cosmetic treatments for men are nothing new, but recent years have seen a monumental shift in attitudes towards male-oriented aesthetic improvements. One that has motivated millions of men from all backgrounds to undergo non-surgical procedures to address a broad range of common issues and take greater pride in their appearance.

Figures from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) indicate that over the past decade, the demand for non-surgical treatments among men has risen by approximately 400%, highlighting just how rapid this growth has been. Coupled with the unprecedented safety and effectiveness of today’s cutting-edge treatments, it’s of little surprise to see more men than ever before considering or undergoing non-surgical beauty treatments.

Popular Non-Surgical Treatments for Men

Products of decades of scientific and technological research, even today’s most mainstream cosmetic treatments are able to address more common signs of ageing than ever before. It’s even possible to alter the shape and proportions of various areas of the body, sculpting a person’s preferred look with no invasive surgery required.

But in terms of the most popular non-surgical treatments for men, several contemporary cosmetic enhancements are hitting home with male audiences more than others. As things stand in 2023, the following rank among the most popular treatment options for men by far:

1. Botox Injections

Botox injections are one of the most popular and iconic cosmetic treatments worldwide. The procedure involves injecting botulinum toxin into specific muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Botox works by blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles, resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance. The procedure is relatively quick, with results becoming noticeable within 3-5 days and lasting for 3-4 months.

Step-by-step overview:

Consultation: Detailed discussion with a qualified practitioner, who assesses the patient’s facial anatomy and recommends a personalised treatment plan.

Preparation: The practitioner cleanses the treatment area and marks the injection points.

Injection: Botox is injected into specific muscles using a fine needle, which takes only a few minutes.

Recovery: Minimal downtime – patients can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure.

Results: Over the course of a few days, the muscles relax and the appearance of wrinkles diminishes. Results typically last 3-6 months.

2. Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are another popular choice, involving the injection of hyaluronic acid-based substances to restore lost volume, fill in wrinkles and sculpt facial contours. The procedure involves injecting the filler beneath the skin, which helps to plump and smooth the area.

Step-by-step overview:

Consultation: Similar to Botox, a consultation with a practitioner helps determine the areas for treatment and the patient’s suitability.

Application: The filler is injected beneath the skin using fine needles, adding volume and smoothing out lines.

Results: Instant improvement can be seen and the treated area may have mild swelling or bruising that subsides within a few days.

Longevity: Results typically last around 6-12 months, depending on the specific filler used and individual factors.

3. Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is an effective method for reducing unwanted hair growth in areas like the face, neck, back and chest. The treatment works by targeting hair follicles with concentrated light energy, inhibiting their growth.

Step-by-step overview:

Consultation: The practitioner evaluates the patient’s skin type and hair colour to determine the most suitable laser settings.

Preparation: The treatment area is shaved and a cooling gel is applied to protect the skin.

Laser Application: Pulses of laser energy are delivered to the targeted area, disabling hair follicles.

Recovery: Some redness or mild discomfort may occur, but this typically subsides within a few hours.

Sessions: Multiple sessions are required for optimal results, spaced a few weeks apart.

4. CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive body contouring treatment that freezes and eliminates stubborn fat cells, resulting in a more sculpted physique.

Step-by-step overview:

Assessment: A practitioner assesses the patient’s target areas and develops a customised treatment plan.

Application: The CoolSculpting device is placed on the treatment area, delivering controlled cooling to target fat cells.

Fat Elimination: Over the following weeks, the body naturally eliminates the treated fat cells.

Results: Gradual fat reduction is observed, with full results becoming visible within a few months.

Sessions: Depending on the desired outcome, multiple sessions may be recommended.

5. Chemical Peels

Chemical peels involve applying a chemical solution to the skin to exfoliate dead cells, improve skin texture and address concerns like acne scars and pigmentation, exfoliating the outermost layer of the skin, revealing a fresher and more youthful complexion underneath.

Step-by-step overview:

Evaluation: A skincare professional assesses the patient’s skin and recommends an appropriate peel type.

Application: The chemical solution is applied to the skin, creating controlled skin damage that stimulates healing.

Peeling: Over the next few days, the outer layers of skin peel away, revealing fresher skin underneath.

Recovery: Mild redness and peeling are expected during the recovery period.

Results: Improved skin texture, tone and reduced imperfections become evident after the peeling process.

6. Microdermabrasion

A non-invasive procedure that uses tiny crystals to exfoliate the skin, microdermabrasion helps to remove dead skin cells, reduce fine lines and improve skin tone. It not only promotes the growth of new skin cells, but also enhances the efficacy of skincare products by allowing them to penetrate deeper into the skin.

Step-by-step overview:

Consultation: The patient discusses their skincare goals with a practitioner.

Procedure: A handheld device is used to spray tiny crystals onto the skin and simultaneously vacuum away the exfoliated cells.

Duration: The treatment is relatively quick and can take around 30 minutes.

Recovery: There is minimal downtime, with some temporary redness and sensitivity.

Sessions: A series of sessions may be recommended to achieve the desired results.
