Polynucleotides are one of the latest treatments to have taken the aesthetics world by storm. So what is it about this treatment that differentiates it from other injectable treatments?

In this blog we will take a look at what polynucleotides are, and why our patients at The Body Work Clinic in Cambridge love this versatile and regenerative new treatment.

What are polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are DNA fractions that are derived from either salmon or trout DNA. When the polynucleotides are injected into the skin they bio stimulate the cells under the epidermis and this starts off a regenerative process beneath the skin.

How do polynucleotides improve skin quality?

Polynucleotides stimulate collagen production through their ability to activate fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen and other structural proteins in the skin. When polynucleotides are introduced into the skin through treatments such as Plinest injections they interact with cell receptors and signalling pathways that trigger fibroblasts to increase collagen synthesis.

Additionally, polynucleotides can also enhance the expression of growth factors and cytokines that further stimulate collagen production. By promoting collagen synthesis, polynucleotides help improve skin elasticity, firmness, and overall youthfulness, making them a valuable component in anti-aging and skin rejuvenation treatments.

What does an increase of collagen and elastin do for skin health?

As we age collagen and elastin levels decrease. This leads to sagging, loose and wrinkled skin. By Increasing our levels of collagen and elastin we will see improved skin firmness , tone and texture as well as less lines and wrinkles.

What’s the difference between polynucleotides and dermal fillers?

When we inject dermal fillers we add volume to the face. Polynucleotides don’t add any volume. Instead, this treatment uses your own biology to rejuvenate the skin from the outside in.

Polynucleotides are therefore beneficial for patients who would like to improve their skin quality without adding volume; but equally polynucleotides are also great for patients who want to have dermal fillers and get the benefit of improved skin quality as well.

Where can polynucleotides be injected?

Polynucleotides can be injected in the face, neck and decolletage. One of the benefits of this treatment is that you can place the polynucleotides closer to the aye area than a lot of other treatments.

Polynucleotides will also work to firm skin on the body for example the stomach or knees. They also have the amazing property of being able to stimulate hair growth and as a result of this they can be injected into the scalp.

Have polynucleotides been tried and tested?

Yes they have! This treatment has been used in traditional medicine for many years for problems such as healing chronic wounds. The efficacy of this treatment and the fact it has been tried and tested for many years before finding its way into the world of aesthetics means we know that it is a safe and effective treatment for our patients at The Body Work Clinic.

If you would like to know more about how polynucleotides could improve your skin health we would welcome you to book a consultation at our clinic in Cambridge.

Summer officially starts on the 20th June 2024 and it’s that time of year when we need to evaluate if we’re swimsuit ready or not.

If you have been good, and spent your time watching what you’ve been eating and working out in the gym you’re probably already beach body ready. However, if the diet and exercise routine suffered from ‘failure to launch’ we are here to help.

At The Body Work Clinic in Cambridge we have a range of the latest technologies that can help you to shift those last few pounds and tighten those jiggly bits to get you bikini ready for the summer season. From freezing your fat, building muscle (without going to the gym), to firming and sculpting, if you want to know more, read on!

Coolsculpting in Cambridge

Coolsculpting is a very popular treatment among our patients at The Body Work Clinic. This fat reduction treatment, also known as Fat Freezing, is great for targeting specific pockets of fat that patients are finding difficult to shift.

The Coolsculpting applicators are positioned on areas where you have stubborn fat and these areas are then targeted by the cold technology that freezes the fat cells. After the Coolsculpting treatment your body naturally eliminates the fat from your system, leaving you looking trimmer with a reduction in fat.

This treatment can be used to target the tummy, inner and outer thighs, love handles, upper arms, back and bra fat, legs, knee pads, under the buttocks, jawline and chin. It can also be used on the chest, but only for male patients.

Coolsculpting works well on patients who are already active and have a good diet but are struggling with stubborn fat that is proving difficult to get rid of.

Emsculpt treatment

If you’re wanting to reduce fat and build muscle in one go, you may be interested in Emsculpt, a non-invasive treatment that can help you on the journey towards getting your body in shape for this summer.

Clinically proven to reduce fat by an average of 19% and to build muscle by an average of 16%, Emsculpt works by projecting thousands of induced, powerful muscle contractions to targeted areas of the body. These contractions result in the body responding by building muscle which leads to a more sculpted look.

Emsculpt is safe, effective, non-surgical treatment suitable for treating the tummy, buttocks, arms, calves and thighs.

Exilis Ultra at The Body Work Clinic

At the opposite end of fat freezing we find the Exilis Ultra, a sophisticated piece of radiofrequency technology which uses warmth rather than freezing to tighten and firm. The Exilis Ultra can be used for both face and body rejuvenation regardless of your BMI or skin type.

Not only is this treatment non surgical but it is fast and effective and it offers a 30% reduction in skin laxity, which makes it a great option for firming up loose and flabby bits on the body.

The Exilis can be used on the arms, tummy and decolletage, all the bits that will be on show when you’re wearing your bikini, on the beach, sipping on a Pina Colada.

A healthy diet and exercise should always be your first port of call when you’re trying to achieve a beach body, but we all know life sometimes gets in the way of our best intentions. So, if you’re struggling with stubborn fat we’re here to help at the Body Work Clinic in Cambridge.

If you’d like to book in for a consultation we would be more than happy to advise you which of our fat reduction and body sculpting technologies would be best for your particular concerns.

Chemical peels are filled with scientifically proven active ingredients. There are different types of peels available on the market that are designed to target different skin concerns.

Peels can be used to work superficially, at a medium depth or work very deeply in the epidermis. A strong peel with a lot of active ingredients will produce a tingling effect when it is applied. The peel produces a chemical reaction when it is on the skin, exfoliating away the top layer of dead skin cells and stimulating the growth of new skin cells.

The reaction caused by skin peels can improve the look and feel of the skin and get rid of more challenging skin concerns like hyperpigmentation.

What is Hyperpigmentation?

If you have hyperpigmentation on your face you will notice that parts of your skin appear darker where you are affected by this skin condition. Hyperpigmentation can show up in the form of sun damage, age spots, liver spots and melasma.

Hyperpigmentation is caused when melanin increases. Melanin is the pigment that gives skin its colour.

What causes Hyperpigmentation?

There are a number of things that can trigger this skin condition. These include the following:

Sun damage

When we expose ourselves to the sun the UV rays in the sunlight makes our skin produce more melanin. This is how we get a tan. Chronic exposure to the sun and UV rays can lead to the melanin producing an uneven pigment distribution, or hyperpigmentation.

Age spots

This condition is similar to the hyperpigmentation seen by sun damage, but with age spots the melanin becomes concentrated in a clump. Age spots normally appear to be flat, darker areas on the skin and they can vary in size. They are sometimes referred to as liver spots.

Melasma

Melasma shows up as darker patches on the skin and it can be triggered by sun exposure and hormonal imbalances. It often appears when women are pregnant, or it can be a side effect of using contraception pills or when a patient undergoes hormone therapy. It can present as almost a symmetrical pattern on the face, and when this happens when a woman is pregnant it is referred to as ‘the mask of pregnancy’.

How to prevent or manage hyperpigmentation?

As the saying goes, prevention is cheaper than the cure! Protecting your skin from damaging UV rays is one of the most important things you can do for your skin health.

At The Body Work Clinic in Cambridge we advise all our patients to invest in a good quality SPF, such as Obagi Sun Shield Broad Spectrum or one of the many products from the Heliocare range of sunscreens.

Some forms of hyperpigmentation are brought on by other factors such as stress and hormonal changes, so in these cases it can be harder to prevent.

If you have hyperpigmentation it can be managed by using quality medical grade skincare and by having regular skin peels.

At the Body Work Clinic we work with both the full range of Mesoestetic chemical peels including Cosmelan and the Obagi Blue Peel. We have the skill and the experience to be able to access which peel will be best to treat the specific type of hyperpigmentation our patients have.

As we age the skin on our faces becomes lined and wrinkled, looser and more saggy.

Aesthetics treatments offer many solutions to improve the look of skin laxity and ageing and as time moves on the technologies we have to manage the ageing process become ever more sophisticated.

If you are experiencing a lack of confidence or self esteem from the effects of the natural ageing process, there is really no need to suffer in silence. Many women and men nowadays are having surgical and non-surgical tweaks to improve how they look and feel about themselves.

Non surgical facelifts are one of the many treatments we offer at the Body Work Clinic in Cambridge and we are seeing fantastics results when we perform this treatment using Ultherapy technology.

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is an award winning, non-invasive skin lifting & tightening treatment. It utilises Micro-Focused Ultrasound Technology to heat specific deeper layers of the skin to 60-70 degrees C.

Ultherapy uniquely enables ultrasound visualisation allowing the operator to accurately target the SMAS layer. SMAS is a mesh network that surrounds the muscles and is the same area that a plastic surgeon pulls tight during a Face Lift. Existing collagen contracts causing lifting and large amounts of new collagen and elastin are produced.

Ultherapy massively outperforms standard HIFU and RF often found on the High Street – as both of these technologies are delivered blindly without visualisation, heating effects for safety reasons are limited to 40-42 degrees C.

In clinical studies Ultherapy has been proven to increase collagen synthesis by 42%

What are the benefits of non-surgical facelifts?

The main benefits of having a non surgical facelift over a surgical facelift is the ease and speed of treatment, the cost and the lack of downtime. With Ultherapy you can experience what it feels like to tighten up the loose skin and jowls on your face and neck in as little as a one hour treatment.

Non Surgical intervention is sequential at your pace and budget, enabling you to control the degree of enhancement or transformation

After your Ultherapy treatment you may experience some redness, swelling or tingling but this shouldn’t impact your daily activities. In comparison, a surgical facelift can require up to 3 months to heal completely.

When will I see results from Ultherapy treatment?

After Ultherapy treatment the results won’t show up immediately. The technology in Ultherapy creates a thermal effect underneath the skin. This in turn triggers the body to create fresh, new collagen.

This regenerative process that the body undertakes to create the new collagen takes time and that is why the results aren’t instantaneous. In addition to this your own unique biology can influence how long it takes your body to produce collagen.

In most cases it will take between 3-6 months to see the results from this treatment with some patients recording improvements before the 3 month mark.

Book your Ultherapy consultation today!

Introduction

This case study delves into the real-life experience of a female patient who underwent CoolSculpting treatment at The Body Work Clinic in Cambridge. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction procedure that uses controlled cooling to freeze and eliminate stubborn fat cells. The patient’s journey from initial apprehension to satisfaction and confidence post-treatment sheds light on the effectiveness and impact of CoolSculpting at the clinic.

Initial Consultation and Pre-Treatment Experience

The patient initially harboured feelings of nervousness about the CoolSculpting treatment. However, after a thorough consultation with the nurse at The Body Work Clinic, her apprehension turned into confidence. She gained a clear understanding of the treatment process and felt assured that it would deliver the desired results. This highlights the importance of comprehensive patient education and communication in alleviating pre-treatment anxiety.

Pain Perception During Treatment

During the treatment session, the patient experienced discomfort, particularly during the massage component at the end of the procedure. However, her discomfort was milder than anticipated, indicating that the experience was more tolerable than her initial expectations. This suggests that managing patient expectations regarding discomfort levels during and after the procedure is crucial for ensuring a positive treatment experience.

Recovery Process and Post-Treatment Care

Following the CoolSculpting procedure, the patient experienced some discomfort, for which she was advised to wear compression underwear. This recommendation proved beneficial in easing her discomfort during the recovery period. Despite initial discomfort, the patient’s ability to resume her normal exercise routine after one week suggests a relatively smooth recovery process. This underscores the importance of providing patients with post-treatment care instructions and support to facilitate a comfortable recovery.

Evaluation of Results at 12 Weeks Post-Treatment

At the 12-week mark post-treatment, the patient revisited the clinic for a follow-up appointment. It was during this visit, upon seeing before and after pictures, that she truly grasped the significant transformation her body had undergone. The patient expressed newfound confidence and motivation, having embarked on a weight loss plan inspired by the results of the CoolSculpting treatment. Her enthusiasm for the upcoming summer season, including plans to wear a bikini despite being in her 50s, reflects the profound impact of the treatment on her self-image and lifestyle.

Efficacy and Recommendation

When asked about the efficacy of CoolSculpting, the patient unequivocally affirmed its success, citing a 100% satisfaction rate. She acknowledged the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to preserve the results achieved through the treatment. Furthermore, she expressed wholehearted endorsement of CoolSculpting, emphasizing its role in providing the motivation needed to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Conclusion

This case study provides valuable insights into the patient experience and outcomes associated with CoolSculpting at The Body Work Clinic in Cambridge. The patient’s journey from initial apprehension to post-treatment confidence and motivation underscores the transformative potential of CoolSculpting in enhancing body contour and boosting self-esteem. Moreover, it highlights the importance of patient education, effective communication, and comprehensive post-treatment care in ensuring a positive treatment experience and long-term satisfaction with results.
